(Mayfield, Kentucky) - Indiana University-Southeast (4-2) outscored Mid-Continent University (1-7), 42-25, in the second half, erasing a 37-29 halftime deficit, and left Mayfield High School Sports Arena with a 71-62 victory over MCU in Tuesday, Nov. 25 collegiate men's basketball action. The IUS win was its second over MCU this season.
MCU travels to Fulton, Missouri, Monday, Dec. 1, for a 7:00 p.m. game at William Woods University, and opens the TransSouth conference schedule in Pulaski, Tennessee, Saturday, Dec. 6, against Martin Methodist at 4:00 p.m.
IUS put together a 14-4 run in the first 3:31 of the second half and later enjoyed a 12-2 run that put the Grenadiers ahead 58-52 with 6:26 left. MCU drew no closer than three points the rest of the game. After shooting just .235 from the field (8-34) and making just 2 of 18 three-pointers in the first half, IUS shot .583 (14-24) and made 7 of 13 three-pointers in the second half.
MCU outrebounded Indiana-Southeast by a wide 55-37 margin, including a 39-18 gap in the first half. The Cougars shot .333 (23-69) from the field for the game, made just 2 of 17 three-point attempts and 14 of 22 free throws, and committed 16 turnovers. Center Kenny Thomas (Orange, NJ/Orange HS/Essex County College) totaled a double-double with 22 points on 10 of 15 shots, and 12 rebounds. Guard Donovan Willis (East Orange, NJ/East Orange HS/Essex County College) added 10 points, 4 rebounds, a blocked shots and 2 steals, and reserve guard TiRon Peoples (Paducah, KY/Heath HS) contributed 5 points and 7 rebounds. Forward Jerry Follot (Laurel, MD/Northwestern HS/Marshalltown CC, Iowa) tossed in 7 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, and guard Aaron Pearson (Baton Rouge, LA/Southern Laboratory HS/Cabrillo CC, Calif.) added 6 points and 4 steals off the MCU bench which outscored IUS's bench, 26-15.
The Grenadiers shot .379 (22-58) for the game, made 9 of 31 three-pointers and 18 of 24 free throws and committed 15 turnovers. Guard Craig Bryant finished with 17 points, 5 three-pointers, 4 rebounds and 2 steals after scoring just 3 points in the first half. Center James Thompkins contributed 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals, and guard Jazzmar Ferguson finished with 14 points and 2 steals. Reserve guard Gary DeJon gave IUS 5 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists.
