Mayfield, KY - Mid-Continent University baseball coach Shawn Yarbrough has signed pitcher Tomas Rodriguez from Rend Lake College (Ill.) and Luis Crespo High School in Camuy, Puerto Rico to an NAIA Letter of Intent to play for the Cougars beginning in the 2011 season.
Rodriguez, a 6-0, 215-pound righthander, pitched for Rend Lake College in 2009, his first season of college ball under Coach Tony Etnier and is a candidate for a starting pitcher position this coming spring. Rodriguez posted a 5-4 record with 3 saves and an ERA of 2.70 as a closer, striking out 30 batters and walking just 7 in 30 innings of work, and allowed 26 hits and 15 runs.
Etnier comments, "Tomas has been a bulldog on the mound for Rend Lake since day one. He throws strikes with three different pitches and isn't afraid of anyone. He is a guy that I can see having a lot of success at the next level because of his work ethic and competitive mentality. Mid-Continent is getting a great player and a hard worker in Tomas."
