Mayfield, KY - For the second consecutive season, Mid-Continent University's season-opening baseball series against College of the Ozarks (Mo.) has been canceled due to the weather conditions.
MCU was scheduled to begin the 2010 season with a pair of doubleheaders, Feb. 5-6, against the Bobcats, but with COO coming from 350 miles away and an 80 percent chance of rain beginning Thursday afternoon, a 90 percent chance Thursday night and more rain and snow showers predicted for Friday and Saturday game days, Coach Shawn Yarbrough announced the cancellations. The two teams also did not play in Point Lookout in February of 2009 for the same reason.
Ironically, College of the Ozarks also was scheduled to open its season at home, Feb. 2, with a doubleheader against Lyon College (AR), but that was canceled when 10 inches of snow fell on Point Lookout, Missouri.
Mid-Continent now opens its 2010 season with a three-game series against McKendree University (Ill.), February 19 and 20, at Cougar Field. The Feb. 19 single nine-inning game begins at 1:00 p.m., and the Feb. 20 doubleheader (two 7-inning games) also begins at 1:00 p.m.
