Mayfield, KY - Mid-Continent University women's softball coach Christa Bakemeier has signed catcher and outfielder Bry Navarro from Centennial High School in Peoria, Arizona, to a letter of intent to play for the Cougars beginning with the 2010-11 season. She is the daughter of Michael and Lydia Navarro of Peoria, Arizona.

During Navarro's four-year varsity softball career, Centennial High School has experienced considerable success at the regional and state levels under the direction of Coach Bartt Underwood. Centennial won the 2010 Class 5-A State and regional championships during her senior year, and Navarro earned All-Region first team selection. As a junior in 2009, Navarro earned All-Region honorable mention honors and helped Centennial win the 5-A Regional championship. Centennial also won the 2008 Regional championship with Navarro earning All-Region second team honors, and during her freshman season in 2007, Centennial placed second in the 5-A State championships and won the regional title with Navarro winning regional honorable mention honors.

Also a quality student, Navarro is a four-time Scholar-Athlete award winner and served as Editor-in-Chief of Centennial High School's newspaper during her senior year and as Sports Editor during her junior year.

Navarro adds to a growing Arizona presence on the MCU squad. Coach Christa Bakemeier played volleyball, basketball and softball for Ironwood High School in Glendale, Arizona and played two seasons of softball for Glendale Community College before transferring to Mid-Continent in 2005-06. The Cougars' softball squad also features former Agua Fria High School and Glendale Community College catcher Jennifer Martinez.

Commenting on Navarro's signing, Bakemeier says, "I am excited for Bry to bring in the fighting, winning, West coast, state champion attitude. Bry will help out the large number of returning players ready to come back and help MCU win next season."

A major factor in Navarro's decision to come to Mid-Continent was its low student-to-teacher ratio. "I knew that I wanted my education to be more one-on-one; I tend to learn better when I know who I'm learning from," says Navarro. "I hope to make an impact and become part of the success of MCU's softball program."
