MCU signs pair of local players.
Mayfield, KY - Mid-Continent University baseball coach Shawn Yarbrough has signed second baseman and catcher Corey Frizzell from Hickman County High School in Clinton, Kentucky, and right-handed pitcher Josh Gerwitz from Christian Fellowship School in Benton, Kentucky to letters of intent to play baseball for the Cougars beginning with the 2010-11 season.
 
    Frizzell, the son of Freddie and Leann Frizzell, played four seasons of varsity baseball at Hickman County High School and hit .318 with a .408 on-base percentage during his senior season. He also has played for the Twin Cities Raiders Senior Babe Ruth League team the last two summers and was a member of the 2008 Ken-Ten Xpress Junior American Legion team that won the Kentucky State Tournament.
 
     Gerwitz, the son of Pat and Lisa Gerwitz, played three seasons of varsity baseball at North Chicago Community High School (Illinois) from 2007-09, and graduated from Christian Fellowship School in Benton in May, 2010. As a junior at North Chicago Community High School, Gerwitz completed the first no-hitter thrown at NCCHS in the last 20 seasons and earned a place on the 2009 All-North Suburban Conference team. He was named team Most Valuable Player at NCCHS as a junior and won team MVP and Best Pitcher honors as a senior last season.
 
     Coach Yarbrough comments on the signings of his latest recruits: "Both Corey (Frizzell) and Josh (Gerwitz) will be great additions to the Mid-Continent University family. They both come from great Christian families and possess strong character on and off the field. They will add valued depth to our new junior varsity program."
