Mayfield, KY - Mid-Continent University women's basketball coach Courtney Nicley has signed 5-10 forward-center Shawn Berry from Doss High School in Louisville, Kentucky to a letter of intent to play basketball for the Cougars beginning with the 2010-11 season. She is the daughter of Bernadette Hereford and Nicola Turner of Louisville.
Berry is the second Doss High School player to sign with MCU - point guard Breanna Evans signed with MCU in April, 2010. Both players were coached by Christine Punches Guntsch as seniors. Berry led Doss in blocked shots and also played volleyball in high school, earning the team's blocking award for her senior season.
Coach Nicley comments about Berry's signing, "Shawn will be a key for MCU defensively. She has quickness and height that she uses well to block shots. We also look for her to bolster our rebounding and help us with our post play."
