MAYFIELD, Ky. - Williams Baptist College (2-0), from Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, took a pair of three-set matches from Mid-Continent University (1-2), by scores of 25-12, 25-14, 24-11 and 25-23, 25-13, 25-15, in collegiate women's volleyball action, Saturday afternoon, August 28, at MCU's Cougar Center.
 
    MCU begins the TranSouth Athletics Conference season with a home match against Cumberland University, Wednesday, Sept. 1, at 6:00 p.m., and a road match at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee, Saturday, Sept. 4, at 1:00 p.m.
 
    In match one, Williams Baptist controlled all three sets from the onset and recorded 35 kills with just 6 errors in 80 chances while Mid-Continent finished with 17 kills and 18 errors in 78 total attacks.  The visiting Eagles served 9 aces and received 12 gift points from MCU service errors.
 
    Junior middle hitter Katie Perry (Anchorage, AK/Grace Christian School) led MCU with 7 kills, and senior outside hitter Tiffany Payton (Wadesville, IN/Mater Dei HS/Kaskaskia College, IL), pictured above on the right, finished with 5 kills and 6 digs.  MCU's freshman setter Jessica Gonzalez (San Antonio, TX/J.P. Stevens HS) set 11 assists and 5 digs, and sophomore defensive specialist Lorraine Vaughan (Russellville, KY/Logan County HS) led the defense with 7 digs.
 
    Williams Baptist outside hitter Bailey Stanley totaled 8 kills, Brittney Dyer finished with 7 kills, and Caitlin Wakefield totaled 5 kills, 3 service aces and 8 digs.  Setter Makenna Wiedower finished with 27 assists, 3 kills and 4 digs.
 
    In match two, Mid-Continent led 17-13 in set one before WBC put things together and led 21-20 and 23-21.  MCU tacked on one more point for a 23-22 deficit, but WBC won a lengthy rally for point 24 and finished off the set, 25-23, on an MCU kill error.  Williams Baptist recorded 44 kills with 12 errors in 100 chances while Mid-Continent finished with 22 kills with 12 errors in 99 total attacks.  Williams Baptist also served 10 more aces.
 
Tara Bauch    Perry led MCU with 7 kills, and Payton added 6 kills and 7 digs.  Sophomore outside hitter Kristin Selph (Jackson, TN/Liberty HS) added 4 kills, a service ace, and a team-high 10 digs and 15 service receptions.  Junior Lindsey Davis (Charlestown, IN/Charlestown HS/Kaskaskia CC) contributed 18 assists and 3 digs, and junior outside hitter Tara Bauch (Houston, TX/Cy-Falls HS/Vernon College, TX), pictured on the left, added 4 kills, 6 digs and 17 serve receptions.
 
    Stanley totaled 11 kills and 2 assisted blocks, and Dyer had 10 kills and 3 assisted blocks.  Wakefield totaled 8 kills, 10 digs, 2 solo blocks and one assisted block, and Wiedower finished with 35 assists and 4 digs.  Kelsey Davault added 17 digs and 14 service receptions.
