Junior MH Katie Perry led MCU with 7 kills and 2 aces vs. Cumberland, Sept. 1
MAYFIELD, Ky. - Undefeated Cumberland University (5-0; 1-0 TSAC), from Lebanon, Tennessee, won the season's first TranSouth Athletics Conference (TSAC) volleyball match, 3 sets to none, over host Mid-Continent University (1-3; 0-1 TSAC), by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-13, Wednesday, September 1, in MCU's Cougar Center.
 
     MCU continues the TSAC season with a road match at Bethel University in McKenzie, Tennessee, Saturday, Sept. 4, at 1:00 p.m.
 
    Cumberland led 11-6 early and went ahead 19-12, but MCU fought back to cut the Bulldogs' lead to four points, 20-16 and 21-17, just before the visitors scored the final four points. MCU led 5-1 early in set two, but Cumberland turned around the score and led by 11 points twice late. Set three also was close in the early stages before Cumberland pulled away to lead 21-7 enroute to a decisive 25-13 win.
 
     The Bulldogs posted 35 kills with 10 errors in 83 chances while Mid-Continent finished with 20 kills and 17 kill errors in 79 total attacks. Cumberland served 7 aces and received 9 gift points from 6 MCU ball-handling errors and 3 net violations. MCU's servers served 5 aces to Cumberland and committed a season-low 3 errors after committing 28 errors in the first three matches.
 
Tiffany Payton     Junior middle hitter Katie Perry (Anchorage, AK/Grace Christian School), pictured above on the right, led MCU with 7 kills and served two aces, and senior outside hitter Tiffany Payton (Wadesville, IN/Mater Dei HS/Kaskaskia College, IL), pictured on the left, finished with 4 kills, one ace and a team-best 10 digs. Junior setter Lindsey Davis (Charlestown, IN/Charlestown HS/Kaskaskia CC), pictured on the right, contributed 16 assists and 3 digs, and sophomore outside hitter Kristin Selph (Jackson, TN/Liberty HS) added 5 kills, 2 serviceLindsey Davis aces, 8 digs and an assisted block.
 
    Outside hitter Kaysi Arnold led the Bulldogs with 8 kills, and setter Taylor Denney finished with 15 set assists and served 3 aces. Outside hitter Laura DeGear totaled 6 kills, and 3 solo blocks and an assisted block, and right-side hitter Jessica Gericke finished with 6 kills and 4 digs.
