JACKSON, Tenn.. - After suffering a heart-breaking loss to Martin Methodist last Thursday night, the Mid-Continent University women's basketball team faced a daunting task on Monday evening.

The Cougars kicked off a three game week with a road tilt at NAIA #3 Union University, and the Bulldogs showed why they are ranked so highly. Union (17-2, 4-1) played most of the first half without their leading scorer, but their stifling pressure defense gave the Cougars (6-11, 1-3) fits all night, as Union took the win 79-46.The game started out close, as the Cougars stayed within one possession of the Bulldogs for the opening eight minutes of the game, but moments after Lavanda Ross picked up her second foul of the game, the Bulldogs began to pull away. Union closed the half on a 29-11 run, taking a 41-22 lead into the locker room at the half. The Cougars did not fare any better after halftime, as Union turned up the pressure defense from the opening possession of the second period. The Bulldogs' defense forced 25 Cougars turnovers, as they cruised in with the win, 79-46.

Asia Grigsby (15) and Chantiera Johnson (11) scored in double figures for the Cougars, while Stephanie Malone led the team with five rebounds. As a team, the Cougars shot 13-for-47 (27.7%) from the floor, 3-for-15 (20%) from long range, and 17-for-21 from the free throw line.

Mid-Continent returns home on Thursday night, playing just their second home game of the semester. The Cougars will take on Bethel University (9-9, 1-3) at the Mayfield High School Sports Arena at 6 p.m.
