The daughter of Charlie and Doreen Bakemeier of Glendale, Arizona, Christa Bakemeier is a May, 2008 graduate from Mid-Continent University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in General Studies. In 2009-10, Christa returns to MCU for a second season in a new role as head softball coach, having served during the 2008 fall season as assistant volleyball coach and as assistant softball coach during the 2009 spring season under former head coach Rocky Stinson, who resigned after the 2009 season to become head softball coach at Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn.
Bakemeier transferred to Mid-Continent University from Glendale Community College (Arizona) in 2006, and pitched and played center field for Stinson for two seasons. She was MCU's team captain in 2007, and won NAIA and NCCAA Scholar Athlete honors as well. She also was Glendale CC's team captain during her sophomore season (2005) and played left and center fields for two seasons.
Prior to her college career, Bakemeier played volleyball, basketball, and softball for Ironwood High School in Glendale, Arizona, and was voted team captain and Most Valuable Player of her softball squad and also won Scholar Athlete honors.
Bakemeier took little time adjusting to Mid-Continent, serving as student government Vice President in her first year in Kentucky, and later was voted commuter representative. As a senior in 2007-08, she was one of MCU's resident assistants.
