Head Coach- 2nd Season
 
     The daughter of Charlie and Doreen Bakemeier of Glendale, Arizona, Christa Bakemeier is a May, 2008 graduate from Mid-Continent University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in General Studies.  She begins her second season as head softball coach at Mid-Continent in 2010-11, and also hosted the first MCU Softball Camp in July, 2010.
 
     MCU posted records of 15-32-1 overall and 4-10 in TranSouth conference games during Bakemeier's first season and hosted the 2010 NCCAA Mideast Regional Tournament at Cougar Field last May.
 
     Christa was named head coach after the 2009 season, replacing Rocky Stinson, who resigned to become head softball coach at Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee.  Bakemeier had served as assistant volleyball coach and as assistant softball coach during the 2008-2009 school year.
 
     Bakemeier transferred to Mid-Continent University from Glendale Community College (Arizona) in 2006, and pitched and played center field for Stinson for two seasons.  She was MCU's team captain in 2007, and won NAIA and NCCAA Scholar Athlete honors as well.  She also was Glendale CC's team captain during her sophomore season (2005) and played left and center fields for two seasons.
 
     Prior to her college career, Bakemeier played volleyball, basketball, and softball for Ironwood High School in Glendale, Arizona, and was voted team captain and Most Valuable Player of her softball squad and also won Scholar Athlete honors.
 
     Bakemeier took little time adjusting to Mid-Continent, serving as student government Vice President in her first year in Kentucky, and later was voted commuter representative.  As a senior in 2007-08, she was one of MCU's resident assistants.

Assistant Coach- 1st Season
 
Amber Rapert is a 2010 graduate of Mid-Continent with a degree in English and completed four seasons of intercollegiate softball at MCU.  From Gosnell, Arkansas, Amber performed for four seasons as a member of MCU's cheerleading squad was active in cheerleading from fourth grade through college and received several UCA and NCA All-America nominations.  She begins her first season as MCU's cheer squad coach and also will serve in a dual capacity as assistant softball coach.

 

A fine student, Rapert earned TranSouth Scholar-Athlete recognition for two consecutive seasons, and she ranks among the Cougars' all-time leaders in games played, runs scored, hits, and RBI.  In 165 career games, Rapert compiled 122 hits in 496 at-bats for a .246 career batting average, 69 runs scored, 15 doubles, 3 triples, 5 home runs, 25 walks, and 11 stolen bases.

 

As a senior in 2010, Rapert hit .270 (38-141) with 28 runs scored, 8 doubles, 3 home runs and ranked second on the team with 24 RBI.  As a junior in 2009, mostly in the lead-off spot in the batting order, Rapert hit .229 (36-157) in 52 games (all starts) with one double, two triples, one home run, 18 runs scored, 10 walks, 4 sacrifice bunts, and 13 RBI, and led the team with 8 stolen bases.
 
Amber was named to the TSAC Scholar-Athlete team and earned NCCAA All-National Tournament honors in May, 2009, helping MCU to a fourth-place finish. Her sacrifice fly ball in NCCAA Tournament play against Indiana Wesleyan proved to be the game-winning RBI in the last inning of a 4-3 victory, and she drove home two runs against eventual national runner-up Spring Arbor in an NCCAA elimination game.
 
Rapert appeared in 9 games as a freshman in 2007, hitting .182 with 2 hits in 11 at-bats, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBI, and started all 57 games as a sophomore in 2008, hitting .246 (46-187) with 6 doubles and a triple, 21 runs scored, 3 stolen bases, and 14 RBI.

 

As a senior softball player at Gosnell HS, Amber recorded the highest batting average on the team and earned selection to the All-Conference team and to the junior All-Star team. She also appears in Who's Who among High School Athletes.

 

Besides her sports participation in high school, Rapert served as president of Mu Alpha Theta, and was a member of the National Honor Society, Science Club, Physics Club, French Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and was active in drama productions newspaper staff, and the Quiz Bowl team. She also was selected as a Homecoming princess.
