Cory comes to MCU from Corydon, Kentucky, where he played baseball for Henderson County High School. A 2007 high school graduate, Bowling also attended Southeastern Illinois College for two years. Bowling started in center field for SIC as a sophomore and earned Academic All-Conference honors in 2009. His teammates at Southeastern Illinois included current MCU teammates Hunter Burge, Nathan Lawrence, Kalip Merrill, and Ken Wagner.

Cory was a two-time All-2nd Region and three-time All-District selection in high school and played in the East-West Kentucky All-Star game after his senior season.
