[Men's Basketball] Men's Basketball: MCU Advances to Saturday's NCCAA Regional Final

Mayfield, KY - Mid-Continent University (21-12), seeded number two in the National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Mideast Regional, advanced to Saturday's NCCAA regional championship game with a 101-82 victory over Tennessee Temple University (14-15), Thursday, March 11, at Mayfield High School Sports Arena. MCU has won eight of its last nine games and 11 of its last 13. The Cougars continue to add to their school-record single-season victory total with each win.

MCU must wait until the completion of Friday's other semifinal action between Bluefield College (17-15), which defeated Covenant (3-22), 96-74, in the other Thursday game, and number one seed King College (21-4), the number one ranked team in the NCCAA National rating, at King College in Bristol, Tennessee. The winner of Friday's semifinal at King takes on Mid-Continent - if King beats Bluefield Friday, the Mideast Regional championship game takes place Saturday, March 13, at King College, but if Bluefield beats King Friday night, Mid-Continent hosts Bluefield College at the Mayfield High School Sports Arena at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, March 13.

[Softball] Softball: MCU Weekend Action at Covenant Canceled

Mayfield, KY - It's been a tough week for Mid-Continent University softball. First, its home TranSouth conference softball doubleheader, Tuesday, March 9, against Freed-Hardeman University was rained out and re-scheduled for Monday, April 5, at 1:00 p.m., at Cougar Field. Then the Cougars' three games at the Covenant College Invitational in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, March 12-13, have been snowed out and will not be rescheduled.

MCU (2-8-1) now plays next at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, Monday, March 15, at 5:00 p.m. eastern time, and plays at Brescia University in Owensboro, Kentucky, Wednesday, March 17, at 4:00 p.m. Central time. Also next week, MCU finally opens its home season on Saturday, March 20, with a 2:00 p.m. TranSouth doubleheader against Lyon College (AR).

Mayfield, KY - Mid-Continent University head volleyball coach Brittany Nicley has signed Jessica Taylor from St. Mary's Memorial High School in St. Mary's, Ohio, to an NAIA Letter of Intent to play for the Cougars beginning with the 2010 fall volleyball season. Taylor is the daughter of Randy and Christine Taylor of St. Mary's, Ohio.

Mayfield, KY - The Mid-Continent University home TranSouth conference softball doubleheader against Freed-Hardeman University scheduled for Tuesday, March 9, has been postponed by rain and re-scheduled for Monday, April 5, at 1:00 p.m., at Cougar Field.

The doubleheader was to be MCU's home opener. MCU now opens its home season on Saturday, March 20, with a TranSouth doubleheader against Lyon College (AR).

[Baseball] Baseball: MCU at Lindenwood Postponed; Game Added

Mayfield, KY - The Mid-Continent University baseball game scheduled for Wednesday, March 10, at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri has been postponed and may be rescheduled for a later date. MCU coach Shawn Yarbrough also added announced the addition of a game for this coming weekend: Mid-Continent now will play Missouri Baptist in two doubleheaders, March 12 and 13, rather than one nine-inning game on Friday and two games on Saturday. Friday's doubleheader against the Spartans begins at 12:00 noon and Saturday's twinbill begins at 11:00 a.m., at Cougar Field on the southwest edge of the MCU campus in Mayfield.

Mayfield, KY -- Ticket prices for the March 11 National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Mideast Regional semifinal men's basketball game between Mid-Continent University (20-12) and Tennessee Temple University (14-14), hosted by MCU at the Mayfield High School Sports Arena, have been announced. General admission tickets cost $6.00 per person and students are admitted for $3.00. Students, staff and faculty from the two participating institutions are admitted free of charge when they show their college identifications.

[Softball] Softball: MCU Wins One of Five Games at CBC Invitational

Conway, AR - Mid-Continent University (2-8-1) won one of its five games at the 2010 Central Baptist College Invitational, March 5-6, in Conway, Arkansas. In Friday's action, Mid-Continent lost 14-6 in five innings to Rogers State University (OK) and lost 10-0 in five innings to host Central Baptist College, and defeated Mid-America Christian University (OK), 8-0 in 6 innings in an early evening game, and in Saturday's action, MCU lost to Baker University (KS), 4-3 in 9 innings, and 8-3 to Southern Nazarene University (OK).

The Cougars play their first home games and begin the TranSouth conference season on Tuesday, March 9, with a doubleheader against Freed-Hardeman University, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. MCU also plays three games at the Covenant College Tournament in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, Friday-Saturday, March 12-13, going to bat against Covenant College, March 12, at 1:00 p.m., and Hiwassee College (TN) at 9:00 a.m. and Judson College (AL) at 11:00 a.m.

[Men's Basketball] Men's Basketball: FHU Beats MCU; Advances to TSAC Final

Mayfield, KY - Number three seed Freed-Hardeman University (22-10) trailed by nine points but outscored MCU, 43-27 in the last 13:45 of the game and defeated number two seed Mid-Continent University (20-12), 98-91, in TranSouth Athletics Conference (TSAC) semifinal action, Saturday, March 6, in the Mayfield High School Sports Arena. The Lions snapped MCU's seven-game winning streak and advanced to the TSAC championship game against number one seed Union University (25-7) which recorded a 75-67 semifinal win over number five seed Cumberland University (12-17) Saturday night at Union.

The season is not yet over for the Cougars either as they will host a National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Mideast Regional game against Tennessee Temple University (14-14) from Chattanooga, Thursday, March 11, at Mayfield High School Sports Arena, tipping off at 7:00 p.m. Covenant College (3-21) from Georgia plays at Bluefield College (16-15) in Bluefield, West Virginia Thursday, and the winner of that game plays King College (21-4), Friday, March 12, at King College in Bristol, Tennessee. The winner of Friday's NCCAA regional game meets the winner of Thursday's game between Tennessee Temple and MCU at King College, the number one team in the NCCAA Division I and an NCAA Division II member, on Saturday, March 13.

Mayfield, KY - Mid-Continent University (20-11) advanced to its first-ever TranSouth Athletics Conference (TSAC) semifinal and reached the 20-win plateau for the first time in its history with an 83-69 TranSouth quarterfinal victory over Bethel University (13-18), March 4, at the Mayfield High School Sports Arena. MCU won its first TSAC quarterfinal game in three tries since joining the TSAC in 2006-07 and is 2-3 in TSAC playoff games in four seasons. The Cougars also won their seventh consecutive game and won for the 10th time in their last 11 games.

MCU advances to a TSAC semifinal, Saturday, March 6, against number three seed Freed-Hardeman (21-10) which defeated number six seed Martin Methodist College (18-13), 83-81, after trailing 44-37 at halftime. MCU hosts its semifinal in the Mayfield High School Sports Arena at 7:00 p.m.

Mayfield, KY - Senior guards Aaron Pearson (Baton Rouge, LA/Southern Laboratory HS/Cabrillo CC, CA), pictured on the right, and Joshua Woodley (Lake Worth, FL/Santaluces HS/Palm Beach CC, FL), pictured below on the left, from the Mid-Continent University men's basketball team both have been named to the All-TranSouth Athletics Conference (TSAC) Scholar-Athlete team for 2009-10.

Pearson, the TSAC leader in steals for the second consecutive season with 79 this season, also ranks sixth in the conference with 92 assists in 30 games. He averages 7.6 points and 3.3 rebounds and has made 13 three-pointers. He majors in business administration with a finance minor.

Jackson, TN - Lambuth University first baseman Mike Davis singled home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning of game one, giving the Eagles a 3-2 win, and catcher Matt Bird bombed a three-run home run in the fourth inning of game two, leading Lambuth (14-4) to a 6-1 win and a doubleheader sweep over Mid-Continent University (4-5) in Tuesday, March 2 collegiate baseball action in Jackson, Tennessee.

MCU plays next in non-conference doubleheader action at Lindenwood University in the St. Louis, Wednesday, March 10, at 6:00 p.m., and hosts a three-game series at Cougar Field on the MCU campus against Missouri Baptist University which includes a Friday, March 12 single, 9-inning game at 2:00 p.m. and a Saturday, March 13 doubleheader at 11:00 a.m.

Mayfield, KY -- Ticket prices for the 2010 TranSouth Athletics Conference (TSAC) men's basketball playoff games have been announced. General admission tickets cost $6.00 per person and students showing their school identifications will be admitted for $3.00. Mid-Continent University students, staff and faculty are admitted free of charge.

Number two seed Mid-Continent University (19-11) and number seven seed Bethel University (13-17) meet Thursday, March 4, at 7:00 p.m., at the Mayfield High School Sports Arena. If MCU defeats Bethel, the Cougars also will host a semifinal game at the Mayfield High School Sports Arena on Saturday, March 6, against the winner of the March 4 quarterfinal between number three seed Freed-Hardeman University (20-10) and number six Martin Methodist College (18-12).

Lebanon, TN - Host Cumberland University (9-17), the number eight seed, led by 13 points at halftime and by 21 points late in the game in a 57-37 victory over number nine seed Mid-Continent University (3-26) in Monday, March 1 TranSouth Women's Basketball Tournament first-round action in Lebanon, Tennessee.

Cumberland advances to meet number one seed and defending TSAC regular season and tournament champion Union University (29-1, 16-0 TSAC) in Jackson, Tennessee, in one of four quarterfinal games on Wednesday, March 3, at 7:00 p.m. Union has ranked number one in 35 consecutive NAIA national polls and is the defending NAIA national champion. Mid-Continent lost its first-round game for the fourth consecutive season since MCU joined the TSAC in 2006-07, and lost its third game against Cumberland in the last seven days, including an eight-point loss at CU, Feb. 27.
