[Men's Basketball] Cougars Rally for Comeback Win in OT

BATESVILLE, Ark. - After a setback against Trevecca, the Mid-Continent University men's basketball team headed to Lyon College, trying to recapture the momentum of their three game winning streak. They did so in dramatic fashion.

Antonio Davis buried consecutive three-pointers in the final minute of regulation, knotting the score at 68-68 and sending the game into overtime, where the Cougars (6-17, 5-5) claimed the win over the Scots (7-15, 1-9), 77-74.

BATESVILLE, Ark. - The Mid-Continent University women's basketball team entered play on Saturday with a tough task before them. The Cougars face a Lyon College team that was ranked 24th in the NAIA Division I poll, 10-0 on their home court, and coming off an upset home win over NAIA No. 1 Freed-Hardeman.

The Cougars (8-15, 3-7) fought hard, but the Scots (18-6, 7-3) proved too much, as they pulled away late to the 77-55 win.

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Mid-Continent University baseball team will be happy to get back home after their season opening eight game road trip.

The Cougars (0-8) finished the trip on Saturday afternoon, but they were unable to finish it with a victory, as they yielded nine runs to the Sand Sharks of the University of South Carolina-Beaufort Sand Sharks (5-1) in the first three innings of the game, en route to the 11-6 loss.

MAYFIELD, Ky. - The Mid-Continent University softball team enters the 2012 campaign coming off a 15-33 season in 2011, but with the returning talent and a hard working team, coach Christa Bakemeier hopes this year's club can improve that total and find themselves in the thick of the TranSouth Athletic Conference race in April and May.

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - It has been a rough first week of the season for the Mid-Continent University baseball team. The Cougars have struggled through their first seven games of the year, and heading into Friday they were still looking for their first win. Unfortunately, the Cougars were unable to find that victory on Friday.

Mid-Continent (0-7) yielded single runs in each of the first three innings of the ballgame, and then saw a comeback fall short, as the Sand Sharks of the University of South Carolina-Beaufort (4-1) took the third game of the teams' four game series on Friday afternoon, 7-4.

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The Mid-Continent University baseball team got a tremendous effort on the mound on Thursday afternoon from the ball club's ace, Tomas Rodriguez. The offense, however, did not give him much support.

Mid-Continent (0-6) staked Rodriguez to an early 2-0 lead, but that was all they would score in the game. Meanwhile the Sand Shawks of the University of South Carolina-Beaufort tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, and two more in the bottom of the eighth, coming from behind to take the 5-2 win.

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Things started out well for the Mid-Continent University baseball team on Wednesday afternoon. The Cougars built an early 3-0 lead, and then things went south.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Sand Sharks of the University of South Carolina-Beaufort (2-1) hung six runs on the board, taking advantage of back-to-back walks to begin the inning and a pair of Mid-Continent (0-5) errors, taking the 6-3 lead en route to the 13-6 win.

MAYFIELD, Ky. - It has been a record setting kind of year for the Mid-Continent University women's basketball team, and on Tuesday night, they continued that trend.

Chantiera Johnson broke the Cougars' single game scoring record with 33 points as Mid-Continent (8-14, 3-6) hung on in the final seconds to win a thriller over the Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene (7-14, 3-6) 75-72 in double overtime.

MAYFIELD, Ky. - During their recent three game winning streak, a couple things have been true about the Mid-Continent University men's basketball team. First, the Cougars have gotten the better of some of the breaks and bounces of the basketball, and secondly - and more importantly - they have taken advantage of their opponent's mistakes. Neither of those statements was true on Tuesday evening.

The Cougars (5-17, 4-5) had trouble finding success scoring the basketball from both inside and out against the visiting Trojans from Trevecca Nazarene (14-8, 6-3), and the Trojans seemingly made every mistake hurt as they cruised to the win 74-43.

MAYFIELD, Ky. - Basketball games just don't get any tighter than this.

The Mid-Continent University men's basketball team did battle on Saturday with the Cumberland University Bulldogs in a game that featured 14 lead changes and 12 ties, with the Cougars (5-16, 4-4) emerging victorious 77-75 over the Bulldogs (13-7, 4-4) on the strength of a Chris Ferguson jump shot with 9.3 seconds to play in the game.

MAYFIELD, Ky. - The final five minutes of Saturday's game were not kind to the Mid-Continent University women's basketball team.

The Cougars (7-14, 2-6) trailed the Cumberland Bulldogs (9-11, 4-4) by just four points with 4:42 left on the clock, but the Bulldogs closed the game on a 16-2 run, claiming the 62-46 win.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - After struggling to get the offense on track in their first double header of the season, the Mid-Continent University baseball team saw their bats wake up at Savannah College of Art and Design on Saturday.

Their pitching, however, was not as good as it had been on the season's opening day.

The Bees of Savannah Art and Design (4-0) rallied to top the Cougars (0-4) in the second game of a twin bill on Saturday, completing the series sweep with wins of 4-2 and 7-5.

SAVANNAH, Ga. - While the temperature at home may not have been suitable for baseball, the Mid-Continent University squad hit the road this weekend, opening their 2012 campaign on the road at Savannah College of Art and Design.

The weekend series, which consisted of two double-headers, was the first half of what is an eight-game road trip for the Cougars, that will see them spend nine days away from home. Unfortunately for the Cougars (0-4), the trip got off to a rocky start, as they dropped all four contests to the SCAD Bees (4-0).
