Women's Basketball - Thu, Jan. 31, 2013

MAYFIELD, Ky. - For the second consecutive year, Stephanie Malone of the Mid-Continent University women's basketball team has been recognized as a member of the Capital One Academic All-District® team for District Four in the College Division. She is the second Mid-Continent player to be so honored in the Capital One Academic All-America® Program as an all-district winner - joining Keagan Bacchus of the Men's Soccer Team.

The 2012-‐13 Capital One Academic All-‐District® Women's Basketball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-‐America teams programs since 2011. The program is the only one in the country that recognized athletic for both their contributions to a team on the court, as well as their prowess in the classroom. In order to be eligible for the program, a student-athlete must start or be a key reserve with legitimate athletic credentials, must be at least a sophomore academically, and must maintain at least a 3.40 grade point average.

Malone has been chosen to the all-district team - which is comprised this season of 12 athletes representing eight NAIA institutions in the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, and Louisiana. She earned her way onto the team as Mid-Continent's leading scorer with 18.3 points per game. She also leads the TranSouth Athletic Conference in rebounding average (9.65)) and steals per game (2.45). In addition, she boasts a 3.56 grade point average in the classroom, while majoring in Psychology and Counseling. As a First Team Academic All-District Honoree, Malone advances to the Capital One Academic All-America® ballot where first- second- and third- team All-America honorees will be selected later in February.
