MAYFIELD, Ky. - The Mid-Continent University women's basketball team entered Saturday's game with NAIA #13 Bethel University after having claimed a road win in their only other game of the week, and having done so without their two leading scorers. Bethel, however, played like a team with something to prove after taking a tough TranSouth loss on Thursday night at Martin Methodist.

Mid-Continent (6-16, 0-4) scored the first five points of the game, but Bethel (17-6, 2-2) battled back, then used a balanced attack and some great perimeter shooting to hand the Cougars their fifth home loss of the season 117-77.

Lindsey Woody buried a 3-pointer for Mid-Continent on the Cougars' opening possession, and moments later, Stephanie Malone connected on a pair of free throws to stretch the Cougars' advantage to 5-0. Bethel battled back, though, tying the game at five, then again at 10, and the Cougars knotted the score at 12 with 14:18 to play until the break. With the Cougars trailing 17-15 and 13:08 left in the period, Bethel put together a 10-0 run to stretch their lead to 27-15 at the 10:24 mark. Mid-Continent pulled to within nine at 27-18, but another 10-0 Bethel blitz pushed the margin out to 40-20 with 6:23 left in the half. Another long run - this one 11-0 saw the Lady Wildcats stretch their lead to 26 with 51 ticks left until intermission, but Woody connected on another 3-ball at the first half horn to cut the Mid-Continent halftime deficit to 55-32. The Cougars managed to avoid allowing any long Bethel runs in the second half, but the Lady Wildcats were equally successful at preventing Mid-Continent from chipping away. As the period progressed, Bethel continued to slowly stretch their lead, claiming the road win 117-77.

Malone tallied her 12th double-double of the season, scoring a team-high 23 points and leading all players on both teams with 12 rebounds. Woody and Breona Houston each nailed four 3-pointers in the game, as the two tallied 16 and 15 points, respectively. The Cougars did not shoot the ball particularly well inside the 3-point arc, a fact largely responsible for their 22-for-62 (35.5%) shooting performance. They did however, shoot very well from 3-point land, knocking down 11-of-22 (50%), as well as at the charity stripe, where team's 22-for-29 (75.9%) effort was bolstered significantly by Malone's 13-for-16 (81.3%) shooting night.

Mid-Continent will step away from TranSouth play when they hit the court next on Monday, heading to nearby West Frankfort, Ill. to take on the Morthland College Lady Patriots (0-8). The contest is slated to tip-off at 7 p.m.
