MAYFIELD, Ky. - It has been a season of ups and downs for the Mid-Continent University women's basketball team. Monday night provided a welcome respite from TranSouth play.

Mid-Continent (7-16) used a stifling defensive effort to shut down the Lady Patriots of Morthland College (0-9), completing the season series sweep with an 82-42 victory in West Frankfort, Ill.
Morthland held close in the early going, trailing by just four points, 9-5, with 15:35 left in the first half. That was when Mid-Continent took control of the contest. In the ensuing seven minutes, Mid-Continent put together a run of 25-2, stretching the lead to 34-7 before Morthland was able to make another shot from the floor. In the final four minutes of the first half, Morthland was able to build a 10-0 blitz to cut the Cougars lead to 41-22, but Kara Carneyhan scored with just 13 seconds left in the period, giving Mid-Continent a 43-22 advantage at intermission. Mid-Continent scored the first 11 points of the second period, taking the lead beyond the 30-point mark for the first time in the game, and Morthland was not able to get closer than 27-points down the rest of the night, falling to Mid-Continent 82-42.

Stephanie Malone continued her tremendous junior campaign, leading the Cougars with 22 points and nine rebounds. Lindsey Woody picked up a double-double in the game, scoring 20 and grabbing 12 boards, along with a team-leading seven assists, and Natalie Taylor added 11 tallies in the win. Sian House was able to notch five blocks in the game as well. As a team, Mid-Continent made 35-of-87 (40.2%) shots overall, but just 7-of-35 (20%) from behind the arc. The Cougars only attempted eight free throws on the night, making five (62.5%). Defensively, Mid-Continent held Morthland to 13-for-65 (20%) from the floor, and 3-for-30 (10%) from long range.
