MAYFIELD, Ky. - The Mid-Continent University baseball team knew they had a tall order on Wednesday afternoon, heading to Columbia, Ky. to take on the NAIA #22 Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders after playing a double-header on Tuesday at nearby St. Catherine College. With the Cougars pitching slightly short-handed, the Cougars defense did not help the cause, and it cost them a chance to stay in the game.

Three Mid-Continent (11-28) errors led to six runs for Lindsey Wilson (31-14) runs, as the Blue Raiders used three big innings to pick up the victory, 13-4.
Richard Arias (5) blasted a home run with two out in the first to give the Cougars the early 1-0 lead, but Lindsey Wilson came back in the bottom of the frame. The Blue Raiders scored three runs in the frame, two of them unearned, then added three more in the bottom of the second to take the lead 6-1. Blake Vaughan picked up an RBI single in the top of the fourth, and two batters later, Uriel Hawkins reached on an error which allowed Dylan Rasch to score, bringing Mid-Continent to within three at 6-3. Lindsey Wilson broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, however, tallying six runs - four of which were unearned - pushing their lead to a comfortable 12-3, and they never looked back. Blake Vaughan lifted a sacrifice fly to left field in the top of the fifth, and Lindsey Wilson's Manuel Ozoria doubled to right-center in the seventh to wrap up the offense for the game, as the Blue Raiders took the game, 13-4.

Scott Sebald (1-1) pitched the first three innings of the game for Lindsey Wilson, allowing one earned run on three hits, a walk and a strikeout in picking up the victory. Caleb Luttrell (1-2) took the loss for Mid-Continent, lasting two innings and yielding six runs on six hits while walking one and fanning two. Arias and Dondre McCarter each had three hits in the game, with Arias scoring twice and Blake Vaughan knocking in two runs. Mid-Continent stranded 15 runners in the game.

The Cougars will return home for their first home TranSouth Athletic Conference series of the season, hosting the Bethel University Wildcats (19-12, 6-0) on Friday and Saturday. The Series will take place at Paducah's Brooks Stadium, with Friday night's game scheduled for 6 p.m., and the Saturday double-header slated for Noon.
